The other day i was chatting to someone on Etsy about photography and food (2 wonderful subjects) and thought id do some baking and take some Photos! Being winter here there isnt to much to do unless you want to risk going out into the cold...

Now i must admit my Photos look alot better then my baking tastes... BUT i am working on that!

Looking for my Motivation...

Today is Sunday.

Went to sleep last night early so I could wake up and paint!

Woke up and my motivation was just gone… don’t ya hate that! So after breakfast I thought right ill go for a walk to mums to grab something and talk the camera, maybe on the way I will find some inspiration…

I saw some flowers and some fruit and foliage… pretty but not motivating…

I saw a cat… it was quite a cold morning and I thought his paws must be cold, my cat has cold paws in the morning, I try to warm them up by rubbing them but she doesn’t really care for that!...

I got to mums, got my stuff and thought well I’m out now, the sun is out (rare here during winter!) I will walk home the long way up the river and see what’s going on up there… (Plus could do with the exercise!)

Here is what was going on up there…

Not to much happening up there either... But it was a nice walk.

So now i want to do something artistic so i will at least get some drawings done ready to paint... then when my motivation shows up ill be prepared!

Well here we go.... Lets try starting again!
Every time i say i need to blog more i do.... for a week or so then fade away... this time lets just see how we go and not make plans with it....! As the Mr says "No Expectations, No Disappointments" LOL

So... I have been working on some Farm Girls for a wee while now and i FINALLY finished the Set! There is 4 of them which you can see by going to my flickr but today i will share my Girl and Her Horse Artwork....
I am choosing to share her because me and Phil (my better half) went to the Trots (or Trotters) on Friday and it was heaps of fun!

We made a few bets, lost a few dollars and almost caught a cold but it was a great day out!
Some of the horses we Bet on even placed and Phil's horse won! Though our bets were Small so we didn't win a lot but we didn't go to gamble we went for the entertainment!

So i thought i appropriate to Share My Farm Girl and her Horse ;)

I have been working on A LOT of new items and goodies while i have been AWOL from the blogging world so keep an eye out either by checking on my flickr every now and then (for new Artworks) or my Etsy (for new items)

We have been having major Internet issue's for the last 3 weeks... yes that's right THREE WHOLE WEEKS!So it has been hard to find the right time to jump on and do anything when the Internet randomly connects at random times... hopefully it will be fixed soon....

Dark Whimsy - Tiny Dancer

Tiny Dancer

Wound by a Key

The lid is open and once again she is woken
As the key turns, the air around her grows thick with woe
Once more she begins to move, compelled to dance this dance,

She knows of sorrow more than she does anything.

WOW! Almost a month since i last posted... every time i tell myself i will make sure to post something new at least once a week something comes up... This time it has been my course plus preparing for two exhibitions! BUT my course ends December 3rd (thank goodness!) and all exhibition artworks are packaged and sent so HOPEFULLY i will have a bit more time for everything else come December!

I have managed to finish 3 more artworks though, yay!

I. Love. This. Store!

All the items are Crochet! From potholders to scarves, fingerless gloves to washcloths and they are just wonderful! The most wonderful thing about these designs is that all of the items are her original designs, and the only patterns she follows are the ones in her head!

How cleaver is that!

How could i resist this store...i couldn't! This week in the mail i received my items and they are even more awesome in person!

One of the items i received was this super cute Owl Potholder! I thought this would make a Great Christmas gift and I'm seriously going to be back for more!

The Friday Features took a Small break while i worked on getting the Word out about the New SPCA Prints!
But now they are Back and you will LOVE today's Friday Feature!

Today i am Featuring a ADORABLE little store called Linsthings who specializes in miniature crocheted bears and friends and many other crocheted, tatted and hand sewn items.
These tiny little bears are one of THE CUTEST things i have come across on etsy!
Linsthings has a great range of little Bears even a Harry Potter Bear !

Each Bear is roughly 2 1/4 inch tall and has been hand crocheted with hundreds of tiny stitches!
AND each bear comes with a certificate of authenticity with name, birth date, number and artist signature is included!
How sweet is That!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROTHER!

On Friday the 21st we had a surprise Party at the Wine Bar in town for my Terrance. He was about 90% surprised i would say! My mother had had a few to drinks before we left and keep annoyingly asking questions which almost gave it all away!

We told Terrance we would be taking him to dinner with our reservations at 7.30pm, so at 7pm we headed into town... unfortunately when we passed the window to Scotch (the place of the Party) the light was on and we could see one of his friends so he had a little clue... But we entered, rounded the corner and SURPRISE!

Even if he wasn't a complete surprised it was a great night!
May 25th officially turns 21...

After sending four artworks down to Invercargill to be part of the NZ's got Talent Exhibition and not selling any i was feeling a bit down... then to my Surprise a Gallery owner in Lumsden saw my Artwork and personally requested that i send them straight over to her Gallery to be part of the Undy Four Hundy Exhibition!
I was thrilled!

I got them sent over along with 5 or so prints and a few packs of Cards and Postcards.

The Exhibition Started May 15th and the Opening night was a HUGH Success!

Although i didn't sell any Artwork i did sell 2 Prints and later that weekend i had an email asking if i could send down half a dozen more!

Alice in Wonderland - Mad Hatter NEW!

Okay here we go... The Mad Hatter is FINALLY complete!!!

This one took me longer then the others, I'm not sure why... ? The Mad Hatter has always been my FAVE character from the Original Alice in Wonderland movie so i thought it would be the easiest but maybe because i tried to base all three more on the New Alice movie it was the hardest! But here it is done and done!

I will be listing all 3 in my Etsy store sometime today so stop by this evening and have a browse!

This is the first piece in this style i have done in some time and i have tried to move away from the greyish backgrounds... what do you think?

Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland

Today was the first day Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland screened in our little Blenheim Cinema. I was down there at 10am ready to watch!

I tried my hardest to go in without expectations as my Favorite movie of all time is Alice in Wonderland, i am boarder line obsessed with it!

As you would imagine to not have expectations of any movie by Tim Burton is extremely hard!
But i did go in knowing that NO ONE out there other then Tim Burton could possibly remake this classic film (and my Favorite movie!)

I was right.

Tim Burton has set the bar, once again.

It was hard to ignore the fact that it wasn't actually a remake of the Original story, which personally i think if he had done that this may have come pretty close to beating the Original! Those who know me know that that means a lot coming from me!

The movie was, to me, a sci-fi fantasy film, the graphics were awesome, the costumes were better and the March Hare was the best!

In the Original Alice in Wonderland my Favorite Character is The Mad Hatter and although no body could have played The Mad Hatter better then Johnny Depp the March Hare was "Just Mad!"

Its as if Tim Burton has taken Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking glass and The Looking Glass Wars and Merged them with Rodney Matthews Alice in Wonderland illustrations!

Bottom Line:

Although, in my opinion, it doesn't top the Original Tale this movie is well worth seeing, even those who aren't a fan of the Alice in Wonderland stories will enjoy the quirky Characters, the Beautiful scenes and the amazing adventures of Alice.

With artists taking part from both near and far New Zealand's Got Talent is an exhibition set to feature both award-winning and emerging artists. The aim of the month long exhibit being held at City Gallery, Invercargill is to showcase a broad range of styles and expose the upcoming talent that New Zealand has to offer. From abstraction to landscapes, mixed media to mosaics the amazing lineup of 29 fascinating artists is sure to delight viewers from all walks of life. The show is to have an opening night at City Gallery, Don Street at 7pm, March 5th 2010. The exhibition itself is open to the public and will run from March 5th-31st. Participating artists from the Southland region will be in attendance.

For the last few days i have been working on 4 small pieces for the Creative Tirau Incorporated project of Tirua Footpath Gallery (you can read about this in my last blog)

I decided to keep working with my FOREVER collection and came up with the idea to do 4 little blocks titled "Forever-In my Dreams" "Forever-In my Heart" "Forever-In my Mind" and "Forever-In my Thoughts"

I have recently started studying for a Diploma in Art and Creativity and am doing Thematic Painting at the moment. For my theme i choose Cupcakes!

I wanted to do something different and fun!

This weeks NZ Art Guild Challenge was to create a piece of artwork based off a well known quote or saying so i thought i would kill two birds with one stone and incorporate my thematic painting in with the challenge!

My Original Artwork "Forever Collection"

These pieces are from a Collection i have been working on on and off for some time now. From top Left "Love is the Best Medicine" "Your Love makes me Fly" "Sending you my Love" and the most recently finished piece "Sealed with a Kiss". I love mixed media and wanted to do something a bit different for a change. These are created on A2 300gsm Watercolour paper and are ALL Original pieces made by me! I have used watercolour paints, acrylics, newspapers, inks, handmade stencils and a few other bits and pieces. I hope to eventually make a set of greeting cards with them. I have done a trial pack using both "Love is the Best Medicine" and "Sending you my Love" and they were so cute i gave most of them away!

I'm having a bit of an artistic block at the moment... I'm ready to paint but i have no ideas! or maybe i have to many ideas so my mind is blocked...
So today i will look back at some of my artworks and see if anything comes to me...

These 2 pieces are 2 of my fave works i have painted, especially the girl in the green, i love the colours! She is titled "Windmills of my mind" after a song, if you are not familiar with the song/lyrics google it! I think the title maybe Windmills of Your mind... Its easy to find and is a lovely song!
My other piece is titled "Charm Tree" its so simple but I'm always drawn to it! I think it has a little bit of Dark Whimsy to it.

I have SLOWLY been working on a set of 3 girls to use to make some more Recipe Cards and the first girl is now complete... Mint Chocolate chip!

The first set of Recipe cards i made are currently available to purchase from my Etsy Store!
Im hoping to make about 3-5 different ones, so keep an eye out... I just think they are so cute and a handy way to keep hold of your most treasured Recipes!
